Learn More Meet Yasmine Castro Yasmine Castro, R.N., is an acute care nurse at Yuma Regional. She was part of a team that heard about a new initiative to identify potential heart arrhythmias before they happen and was eager to learn more. Yuma Regional adapted this technique to become one of the first hospitals in the nation to implement a pilot program that has decreased heart-stopping code blues by 50%. Through a collaboration between our information technology and nursing teams, Yasmine and her team identified 11 hints or indicators that show up when a patient moves toward a code blue, an emergency signal of unexpected cardiac arrest. Today, those indicators are used throughout Yuma Regional and other hospitals to save lives. Meet Yesenia Espindola Yesenia Espindola works in the Cancer Center. She was a part of the team who understood the value and convenience of home-based cancer treatments. They wanted to knock down barriers to provide the best care possible for our cancer patients. So, they collaborated with local pharmacies to deliver home-based oral chemotherapies right to the patient’s doorstep. Since implementing our Oral Chemo Collaboration in 2021, we have helped make it easier for many of our cancer patients to receive their home-based oral chemotherapies. Today, the program continues to thrive while we work and find more ways to help patients have easier access to life-saving treatments. Learn More Meet Melissa Belcher Melissa Belcher, R.N., knows experienced surgical techs are vital to successful surgeries. So, she helped develop a Surgical Technologist Internship program to train the best and brightest right here in Yuma. This program ensures patients get quality surgical care and offers local career growth for staff, which is a win-win for everyone. Currently, several new scrub techs have completed the program and joined Yuma Regional’s surgical services team. Our techs are now working alongside doctors and nurses, performing a crucial role in the hospital’s surgical suites while making a positive impact on surgical excellence. Meet Karina Cruz When Yuma-native Karina Cruz, P.A., wanted to grow her medical career, she stayed right here at home. She trained under the best surgeons in the urology field at Yuma Regional and helped open Yuma Regional’s first urology clinic last year. We’re committed to growing talent in our community and improving our neighbors’ healthcare access. That’s why we added 31 new providers in the last two years and expanded our clinic hours and appointment times. A short trip can make the biggest difference.
